just woundering im on the 1.2.2 build and it will not let me use this option and the on screen display what could the problem be

What distro do you have and have you built mangler yourself from source?

Also what audio player are you trying to use with mangler's now-playing feature? Mangler is known to work with mpd, rhytmbox and amarok.

For the on-screen-display to work you will need to have libxosd installed http://sourceforge.net/projects/libxosd/
