Whenever I talk over Mangler, my EVE Online corpmates say that a high-pitch noise (like a Dog Whistle) comes over the mic with me. They've been putting up with it, but some of them are getting really annoyed by it. What could be my problem?
I am using 64 Bit Fedora 14, 64 Bit Fedora 13 Mangler client, and PulseAudio. The Codec that the server uses is Speex 32kHz Quality 10.

This sounds like a problem with your headset.

That's what I thought but it only happens on Mangler, which makes me believe that it's a problem with Mangler.

It's definitely not a problem with Mangler. Mangler doesn't do any audio processing on audio input. It broadcasts exactly what's received from PulseAudio. It's possible there is an issue in PulseAudio, but that is also unlikely.

Then why is it that TS3 and EVE Voice (an ingame voice chat) do not have that noise?

TS3 uses OSS for input. I'm not sure what EVE under WINE uses. This will vary based on your WINE configuration. Perhaps it is a PulseAudio problem after all.

On the presumption that TeamSpeak3 and other voice over IP protocols you have used were not utilizing ultra-wide band voice codecs with a 32 kHz sampling rate, such as you address with the Speex codec, this high-pitched artifact might as well be above the Nyquist frequency with an 32 kHz sampling rate of 16 kHz. Once low-passed and resampled further below this 32 kHz sampling rate, you may not be able to hear this high-pitched artifact.
Most likely, it has everything to do with your audio equipment and not so much with software.

I've got my WINE set to use Pulse as well.

I'd like to add to this thread as my problem is very similar.
I'm on Ubuntu 10.10 and I'm using PulseAudio in mangler. The server I'm connected to uses Speex 32kHz Quality 10 as well. Whenever I transmit other users complain about static or a high pitched noise. I've used the ubuntu built in sound recorder to hear what's being input, and to my surpise there isn't a high pitched noise or static issues. I also tested the recording software and mangler did while the PulseAudio configuration was open to make sure that the programs was in fact using PulseAudio. I'm a bit of a newbie to gnu/linux but from what I've seen this seems to be a problem with gnu/linux and mangler. I've used the same audio equipment and same laptop running windows vista and ventrilo, and the users do not complain about the same issues(static and high pitched nosie) I'm getting in ubuntu.
Any ideas on what's going on here? Would it be helpful if I included more system information etc? I'd like to see this issue resolved.

It'd probably be most helpful if everyone with this problem listed their audio hardware information:
lspci | grep -i audio
