Hey.

First of all, great work with a client for ventrilo 3 server for linux! Nice ;)

But I wonder. Is it possible to disable the license check with the ventrilo servers and let it connect without the verification?

No, this is not possible. This verification is one big, giant reason no one should use Ventrilo. Aside from the privacy concerns, the sheer arrogance of requiring all client connections be approved is phenomenal.

Use Mumble…. or even Teamspeak.

I know I'm a nobody, but my input for you is thus (since I don't think you 'get it')…

Mangler shouldn't be asked to support people who willfully try and take money from the guys at Ventrilo. If you're going to the effort of cracking their servers, then really, use one of the alternatives, such as Teamspeak, Mumble, Skype, Roger Wilco, etc…

Mangler is a great leap into bring the Ventrilo client to Linux. Ventrilo clients have always been free. Mangler, then, is not affecting their revenue adversely, instead, it potentially brings them more paying customers for their server applications.

Because of this, Mangler would most likely get positive support from the guys at Ventrilo.

If the admin here started working on breaking licences, then the Ventrlo guys would most likely come down hard on Mangler, which would bring it to a premature end.

This check has already been removed from Windows clients and servers by a cra**er team named UCF. I want to be able to connect to theese cra**ed servers from Linux too ;)[/quote]

The source code for Mangler is available under the GPL. It should not be hard for anyone to apply their patch so it can connect to these illegal servers. However we will not be providing the means to do so, nor will we distribute source code that does it.

While I disagree with the DMCA, it is still the law… What we've done so far could be argued as acceptable under the DMCA, but what you're asking is a clear violation… and I have an aversion to ending up in federal pound-me-in-the-ass prison.

As the guy above said, if you're going through all that work, you should just use something that's already free.
