Hello,

I recently compiled mangler from an SVN checkout of trunk. Mangler works great with Pulse Audio, but not 100% with Alsa on my system. This might just possibly be the case for my particular situation because i have the Sound Blasters X-Fi card for which i cannot get mic input to work with the card. This is not a mangler issue.

However I resolved my mic issue by enabling my onboard audio. Through Gnome's sound config i set it up as a device used for input, while X-fi is is setup as the output device.

This setup works great with mangler when i use the Pulse Audio subsystem.

But when i switch the audio subsystem to Alsa i could only hear perfectly. When trying to use my mic to transmit  the icon next to my user name would flash red instead of green, then nothing.  So currently by using Alsa as the subsystem, i cannot transmit.

This is not really an issue for me. I will just use the Pulse Audio subsystem as it works well with WoW even when i have wine configured to use Alsa. The problem with using the Pulse Audio subsystem on my linux audio system configuration, which is configured to use Alsa, is that when listening to audio using Rythmbox if someone on vent starts transmitting then there is a defening audio screech. LoL! The sound scared me, that i almost fell out of my chair. Such that currently when using mangler i do not have any other audio application running except for the ingame sound in WoW that is run with wine.

Another interesting note i would like to add is that, while i was working on mangler's audio transmit to work using Alsa in manglers seetings under the Audio tab i set up the input device to Creative-xfi: front/Wavein .   What happened was that i could transmit but was transmiting Rythmbox's BBC internet radio feed to my guild mates on vent. That was pretty funny some of them though i was British.

best regards,

madvik

You should not be trying to mix ALSA and PulseAudio on the same system.  IIRC, the X-Fi is a hardware mixing sound card, which theoretically should allow this, but I would recommend using one or the other.

Based on your post, it seems you want to use ALSA.  You should figure out how to make your mic input work with ALSA.
