A Ventrilo Compatible Client for Linux
Mangler for Android 1.0alpha4 is available
Mangler for Android 1.0alpha4 is now available on the Android Market. Unfortunately, someone forked our project and uploaded their fork to the Android Market without changing the namespace. Since our namespace (a.k.a. application name) was stolen, this means that we had to change our stuff, which in turn means that an Android device does not realize that it’s the same application. Because of this, you’ll need to remove any existing copy of Mangler on your phone and you will lose any servers that you’ve configured.
That said, 1.0alpha4 has the following fixes:
- Phones that don’t support native channel rates will automatically resample from supported phone sample rates to channel sample rates. This fixes issues for Samsung devices. (In the future, avoid Samsung devices… they seem to suck).
- Navigating away from Mangler (i.e. hitting the Home button) and coming back later should (may) now work. Warning: CyanogenMod AutoKiller will kill the service when you do this
- Some fixes for the chat tab

Any idea if you’ll add support to make it so you dont have to use push to talk and use the normal phone speaker? I would love to use this more like a phone rather than a walke-talkie.
Other than that, it works just fine for me, awesome job guys.

Omg, this rocks guys, just installed it on my HTC Desire, and it works perfect… Sound quality is top notch, only the tiniest delay that isn’t really noticeable tbh… It’s awesome, keep up the good work

I am using a Motorola Droid with 2.1 and updated to the latest alpha4 version. I can connect without an issue to one vent server, but then I get a “connection to server failed; could not authenticate server: timed out waiting for ventrilo server” on a different server. I have confirmed the second server is online and can be connected to via the windows based client.
Suggestions?

Just tried it on a DroidX and when I talk it’s a little crackled for some reason, hearing others is perfect.

That’s weird to say the least. Works fine on my HTC Magic on both 1.6 and 2.1. What Android version are you using? What codec for that channel?
Does it work on vent.mangler.org:9047?
